My experience with domain names began about 9 months ago, i think it all started with an article titled 'Domain Kings Rivers of gold' which mentioned Rick Schwartz (DomainKing).
The article mentioned some of the memorable domain name sales eg ireport.com and property.com.
Of course, this had instant appeal to me as i'm sure it did for many other readers and potential domainers. Buy a domain name for a relatively cheap cost and re-sell it for a big profut down the track. Unfortunately if it was that easy, we'd all be out there doing it.
The benefit these pioneering domainers had is they saw a potential business oppurtunity years ago at the beginning of the internet domain name market and bought up big. There was a lot of foresight in their thinking
Anyway, i was still curious, and decided to give domaining a go.
In the beginning, i just started buying domain names that had strong business use, memorable phrases and keywords, and domains that had some personal appeal to me. It soon became very easy to buy domain names just because i liked the sound of them or because they had personal meaning or significance.
I've only just sold my first two domain names in the last month and made a reasonable return. Although it would be nice to make a lot of money, i'm just not in a hurry to sell most of the domains i own.
As of today I have a collection of about 130 domains and growing, and its a fun hobby, even if i don't make money.
Most of my domains are parked and have adsense and affiliate marketing advertising on and some are listed for sale at the various domain name marketplace sites.
